RIGRS Mud Pump Pulsation Dampeners & Replacement Bladders
The Pulsation Dampener pack assembly is the main component of the discharge end of the drilling mud pump. Which is mainly composing of: the shell, the rubber core pressure plate, the pressure gauge, the stop valve and so on. In the first half of the discharge process.
The air bag stores part of the liquid from the excess average displacement of the liquid cylinder. And in the second half of the air bag, the original storing part of the liquid is discharging to supplement the shortage of the liquid cylinder, so as to keep the liquid pressure and displacement in the discharge line after the air bag is relatively uniform.
Only nitrogen or air can be filling into the exhaust air bag, and flammable and explosive gases such as oxygen and hydrogen can be strictly filling. The air bag inflation pressure is 30% of the design pump pressure, the general pressure is 4-6MPa, and the best is 4.5MPa.
When the mud pump is working normally, the Pulsation Dampener pack stop valve is closing to protect the pressure gauge.
Air bag plays an important role in regulating pressure and reducing fluctuation in drilling, so it is very important to maintain the normal operation of air bag in drilling production.
Air Capsule Pulsation Dampener:
- 1.Air Capsule Pulsation Dampener is an accumulator with a fixed precharge that absorbs system shocks while minimizing pulsations, pipe vibrations, water hammer and pressure fluctuations.
- 2.By minimizing pulsations in system components such as regulators, solenoids, sensors, etc., the pump will reduce wear and extend service life.
- 3.Pulsation dampers are attaching directly to the discharge manifold or installing directly downstream of the pump.
- 4.We offer a wide range of Drilling and Production Spherical Pulsation Dampers.
5.Volume sizes range from 10 gallons to 20 gallons and pressure ranges from 3000 psi to 7500 psi. - 6.The body of the spherical pulsation damper is constructing from a one-piece steel forging, eliminating the possibility of weld fatigue failure.
- 7.They are interchangeable with Hydril Series “K” dampers, Emsco Series “PD” dampers and Bomco Series “KB” dampers.
- 8.These devices connect reliably and reliably via API.

RIGRS Mud Pump Pulsation Dampeners Structural Advantages
Premium Forged Steel Body:
The outer shell of our KB-75 and KB-45 dampeners is manufactured from high-strength forged alloy steel (strictly compliant with ASTM/API standards). Unlike cast steel equivalents, our forged housings eliminate the risk of micro-porosity and crack propagation under extreme oilfield pressures (up to 7,500 psi).
Highly Resilient Rubber Bladders (Air Capsules):
The bladder is the heart of the pulsation dampener. RIGRS offers proprietary compound formulations tailored to different drilling fluid environments:
Premium NBR (Nitrile):
Excellent wear resistance and tensile strength, perfect for standard water-based muds (WBM).<
Severe-Duty HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile):
Specifically designed for high-temperature applications and oil-based muds (OBM) with aggressive chemical additives.
Urethane:
rovides maximum tearing resistance for extreme solids-control and drilling conditions.
Standard Connection Styles:
Equipped with standard API 7-1/16” 5000 psi or 7-1/16” 7500 psi flange connections, making installation straightforward on any standard mud pump discharge manifold.
Safe & Reliable Nitrogen Charging Valve:
Features an easy-to-use pressure gauge interface and a secure charging valve mechanism, enabling fast nitrogen pre-charging on the rig floor.
FAQ – RIGRS Mud Pump Pulsation Dampeners
Q1: Are RIGRS pulsation dampeners and rubber bladders 100% interchangeable with OEM brands?
A: Yes, completely.</strong> All our KB-75, KB-45, and D70 dampener assemblies, as well as their internal rubber bladders and charging valves, are built strictly to API Spec 7K industry dimensions. They are 100% physically and functionally interchangeable with parts from Hydril, EMSCO, BOMCO, and National Oilwell Varco (NOV). You can install a RIGRS replacement bladder directly into your existing Hydril or EMSCO dampener shell without any modifications.
Q2: How do I select the right bladder material (NBR vs. HNBR) for our drilling project?
A: Choosing the correct elastomer is critical to preventing bladder rupture and reducing NPT (Non-Productive Time):
Select NBR: if you are drilling with water-based muds (WBM) at standard temperatures (under 100°C/212°F). NBR provides the most cost-effective solution with excellent mechanical wear resistance.
Select HNBR: if your project utilizes oil-based muds (OBM/SBM), synthetic muds, or operates in high-temperature formations (up to 150°C/300°F). HNBR resists chemical degradation and thermal hardening far better than standard nitrile.
Q3: Do you supply the nitrogen charging kit and pressure gauges along with the dampeners?
A: Yes, we do.We can supply complete, ruggedized Nitrogen Charging Valve & Gauge Kits</strong> as an optional accessory with every order. The kit includes high-pressure charging hoses (compatible with standard nitrogen bottles), a calibrated pressure gauge, and a durable protective carrying case, ensuring your field crew can safely pre-charge and monitor the dampener on the rig.
Q4: What testing and quality certifications do RIGRS pulsation dampeners undergo?
A: Every single forged dampener body undergoes ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) to ensure there are no internal steel defects. Once assembled, the units are subjected to high-pressure hydrostatic testing at 1.5 times the maximum rated working pressure (e.g., testing a 5,000 psi unit at 7,500 psi). All rubber bladders undergo rigorous durometer, elongation, and vulcanization tests. We provide Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) and fully support third-party inspections (SGS, BV, DNV) before shipment.
Q5: What temperature ratings do you support for cold-climate (Arctic) drilling operations?
A: Standard carbon steel becomes brittle and loses its impact toughness in extremely cold temperatures. For oilfields in Canada, Siberia, or North Sea projects, RIGRS offers low-temperature customized dampeners manufactured from ASTM A350 LF2 forged steel. These bodies undergo rigorous Charpy V-notch impact testing down to -45°C (-49°F) to guarantee they remain structural and safe under Arctic conditions.
