Description
RIGRS Annular BOP
RIGRS supplies API 16A annular blowout preventers for drilling, workover and well-intervention applications. Annular BOP selection should be based on bore size, rated working pressure, top and bottom connections, operating temperature, packing-element requirement and service environment.
For replacement projects, send the existing BOP model, nameplate, bore size and connection details for technical review.
RIGRS BOP is suitable for most oil rig in the world, even if it’s as cold as the oil and gas industry in Russia, and as hot as the oil rig in UAE.
The Annular BOP is designed to seal the annular space between the drill pipe and the wellbore and are usually mounted at the top of the BOP stack. Our annular BOP features a dependable, compact design with retrofittable swarf seal technology. When actuated, hydraulic pressure runs the piston, as well as subsequently shuts the spherical. The Spherical’s closure occurs in a smooth, synchronised upward as well as inward motion, rather than horizontal motion.

RIGRS Annular BOPFEATURE
- Resistant to destructive atmospheres– Standard models appropriate for inner H2S service, as well as easy screw and also training bind changes convert them for external H2S service.
- Enhanced swarf seal– Designed to help protect against metal-to-metal damage from swarf getting in the piston when executing milling
- Wear rings on relocating components– Feature stops metal-to metal call, allowing for prolonged preventer life.
- Strong, simple construction– only five major parts
- Simple hydraulic system– Optimized to just require 2 hydraulic connections for operation
- Rugged, reliable spherical type securing component– Provides favorable seal after hundreds of tests to complete working stress.
- Ease of Service– Element can be replaced without contamination of mud or grit into the hydraulic system.
When Is an Annular BOP Preferred?
An annular BOP is commonly selected when the sealing element must accommodate different tubular diameters or when controlled stripping through the preventer is required.
The allowable sealing and stripping conditions depend on the specific BOP and packing-element design and should be confirmed before operation.
Packing Element Selection
The packing element is one of the most important wear components in an annular BOP. Selection should consider operating temperature, drilling fluid, hydrocarbon exposure, H₂S service and expected stripping duty.
For replacement elements, provide the BOP manufacturer, model, bore size, working pressure and existing part number or photos.
Replacing an Existing Annular BOP?
For replacement projects, please provide:
Existing manufacturer and model
Bore size
Working pressure
Top and bottom connection
Flange-to-flange height
Operating temperature
H₂S requirement

RIGRS Annular BOP – FAQ
Q1: Can one annular BOP seal different pipe sizes?
A: Yes, within the qualified operating range of the selected packing element and BOP design. The exact sealing range should be confirmed from the specific model.
Q2: How do I select the correct packing element?
A: Match the element to the BOP model and bore size, then confirm operating temperature, drilling fluid, hydrocarbon exposure and sour-service requirement.
Q3: Can an annular BOP be used for stripping?
A: Many annular BOPs support controlled stripping, but allowable pressure and operating conditions depend on the BOP design, packing-element condition and operating procedure.
Q4: What information is needed for a replacement annular BOP?
A: Provide model, bore, working pressure, top and bottom connections, overall dimensions and service conditions. A nameplate photo and outline drawing are particularly useful.
Q5: Can an annular BOP be supplied for sour service?
A: Sour-service requirements should be stated in the RFQ so metallic material, packing-element compound and project requirements can be reviewed before quotation.
